Although both businesses are successful, there have been some obstacles. “I fought hard to break through the ‘glass ceiling’ blocking access to the most coveted contracts long held by old school business networks. Having fought that battle and proven myself, opportunities have followed. A great deal of my business is from out of town. Local word of mouth and referrals are key to attracting new contracts. Personal relationships and professional networks drive my business.” The WBENC certification has given her businesses the boost she needed. “I have received a great deal of reinforcement from participating in and supporting WBEC South. There is no doubt that my WBE certification has factored into my being awarded several major contracts by national corporations. I never fail to state that I am certified when competing for business.”
