CEO/ Mayer Electric Supply

Nancy Goedecke is a proud CEO of this third-generation family-owned business. She has life long memories & experiences from her father and her grandfather who founded Mayer Electric Supply in 1930. Their tenacity was a great example to her and she has taken the company to new heights. This company boasts 84 years as an electrical distributor and is not showing any signs of slowing down.

“There is an innate benefit in several of our communities where we have locations that our certification has truly served as a banner, and has opened up discussion and opportunity with business owners, regardless of whether we receive business immediately or not.”

Formula for Success

With ever changing business practices and principles, Mayer has had to overcome some challenges. “New market players coming into the market utilizing technology (Amazon, Google), aging workforce, and a shortage of young talent coming into our industry to replace the quick retirement of baby boomers” Nancy says, has been some of her company’s major obstacles. “These obstacles can be overcome, but we will likely need to look at how we are currently structured to service the same business.”

Changes within business is inevitable, but her dedication to certification has remained the same. “Being WBENC Certified has not guaranteed that we will receive special privileges at obtaining jobs or contracts. However, with all things being equal, being WBENC Certified has definitely been a deciding factor with Mayer landing several large jobs/contracts. It creates immediate networking. The opportunities to meet a diverse group of people at local and national events would not be possible if we did not have the certification. The events and networking allow us to find, meet, and sustain not only business relationships but also to develop lasting relationships and friendships.”
