Dominique Gordon has been operating Immaculate Cleaning & Improvements since 2007 and is proud to be a woman business owner. She understands the importance of being an entrepreneur and won’t let anything get in her way. “In the past it has been difficult for women to embark on entrepreneurial endeavors, however, in recent years, women have taken initiative, passion, and drive to new heights. The biggest obstacle that my business has faced is equal opportunity. We work in the construction industry which is primarily dominated by males. There have been challenges proving our company’s abilities because it is woman owned. In most bid meetings I am the only female present and often overlooked in conversation. Their perception is changed immediately when we walk through the job and I give them my plan of action for completing it.”
Formula for Success
Immaculate Cleaning has been certified for one year and has used WBENC certification to secure stable business. “Having this certification has opened doors for long-term contracts, some of which last over 2 years. I’ve received 3 subcontracts for jobs within the downtown area of New Orleans. When marketing my business to contractors, our business stands out and gives us an advantage over other bidders. The greatest benefit I’ve received as a WBE is having steady work year round. Between the three services we provide; cleaning, drywall finishing, and painting we have been blessed to have work throughout the year. As a team we are able to execute projects and as a result, we are able to get jobs first hand before bids go out to others! This WBENC certification carries weight and opens doors that otherwise I wouldn’t have access to.”
Inspiration & Insights
“I cannot say this word enough work, work, work! Even when there isn’t any work. As long as you are marketing, pitching, improving & reinventing your business, you will be prepared whenever the next opportunity arises. Master your craft! Pray and keep a positive mindset no matter the circumstances because obstacles will come.”
